Beam design for your proposed opening
The required section depends on the span, supported construction, loading, restraint and deflection requirements. An approximate opening width or a neighbouring property’s beam size is not enough to specify a safe replacement.
Bearings and the structure below
End reactions must be carried into adequate supports. Our scope may include padstones, masonry checks, posts, connections and foundations where required. If existing supports cannot be confirmed, we identify the additional information needed.
Headroom and buildability
A deeper beam may affect ceiling levels or doors; a heavier or shallower alternative may create different connection and installation requirements. We discuss constraints with the project team so the structural arrangement can be coordinated with the intended space.
What the builder needs
The agreed deliverables identify designed members, relevant details and assumptions. Fabrication information, temporary works, installation methods and fire protection responsibilities must be coordinated separately where they are not included in our appointment.
